Follow our urban water on this walk through wetlands to the Elk River. Catch wetland creatures and learn how plants help keep our river clean. Meet at library garden at 7pm Tuesday 19th. Wear rubber boots.

Lets Go Nature Walk
Meet at Maiden Lake (behind Extra Foods) on April 22 at 9:30am for a hike around the Lake and up the Elk river and return by a trip down the road by the wetlands and the golf course.
Our agenda will be birdwatching, insects and butterflies that may be out early and a little about forest progression and wildflowers. This Nature walk should take about 2 and 1/2 hours and we will return to Maiden Lake by 12:30 at the latest.

Tailgate Sale & Book/Toy Swap
A tailgate sale is just like a yard sale, bring your treasures and make a fortune! Ideal for apartment/condo dwellers or anyone living in a remote location, or if you don't have quite enough items for a full yard sale. Bring a truckload, flip your tailgate down or set up a table (max 1 table per truck.) Set up is strictly 8.30am-9.30am, no early birds. Sales (Foot traffic only) 9.30am-Noon, For safety reasons, no trucks will be admitted after 9.30am. Limited parking will be available near the Community Centre for Advance Polling. In aid of Earth Week activities and causes.

Pesticide Free Lawn workshop
With the City of Fernie’s pesticide bylaw in effect as of January 1, 2011, we invite you to join us for an educational workshop with organic lawn and garden expert Paul Tukey. Paul Tukey, of SafeLawns.org is the author of the Organic Lawn Care Manual and is the Executive Producer of the award winning documentary A Chemical Reaction. Winner of the prestigious Horticultural Communicator of the Year Award from the American Horticultural Society, Mr. Tukey makes upwards of 100-120 appearances a year across North America. Lauded for his ability to turn a mundane subject — lawn care — into a rousing public discourse, he has been featured in thousands of media outlets from Good Morning America in the U.S., to the CBC in Canada, as well as National Geographic, Readers Digest and the New York Times, which called him “The godfather of the natural lawn care movement.” You visit his website at www.safelawns.org
This workshop will provide you with tips, strategies, resources and tools as we learn together about how we can beautiful, and healthy, lawns and gardens while protecting ourselves from the health and environmental risks of non-essential pesticides.
